Synopsis: When Jake and Mariana meet in detention, they discover a much-needed
friendship with each other. As other personalities enter their sphere, a push and pull
between positive and negative decisions leads them in different directions. Will their
friendship’s bond be strong enough, and can people change their decision-making
habits?

JAKE – (16) – Open Ethnicity – Male – LEAD ROLE, Jake is still in high school, but his
interest is low due to moving around a lot. He desperately wants a friend, but is torn
with knowing that any friendship will be doomed when he moves again. His dad is way
more strict, but he is working a better job that keeps him busy, so he’s with mom this
year. Works tentatively 7 days.
MARIANA – (16) – Open Ethnicity – Female -LEAD ROLE, an honor roll student who
struggles with fitting in. She doesn’t know how to be around others, and it makes her
nervous and self-conscious. This, coupled with the stress of trying to overperform at
school, makes her desire an escape and also have a hard time saying ‘no’ to the offering
of drugs and alcohol. Works tentatively 7 days.
AMELIA – (16) – Open Ethnicity – Female –Amelia is trying to make a loud statement
everywhere she goes. From her clothing to her attitude, she has an axe to grind and the
chip it left in her shoulder to bear on everyone she encounters. She only really feels
calm and nice when she is high. Truly, she wants people to like her, but it is safer to bare
your fangs first and find friends later. Works tentatively 2-3 days.
PELON – (18) – Hispanic – Male –Pelon is teetering on the edge of being a drug-selling
high school dropout. He lives with his dysfunctional dad, Pablo, and fraternizes with
partying high schoolers. His house is a low-key place for kids to come party. Pelon has
aspirations of being a rapper and uses his influence on the youth to fuel his ego about
his rhymes.. Works tentatively 5 days.
PABLO – (35-45’s) – Hispanic – Male– Pablo is as complex as he is mixed up. He has
grown into a narrative of the disabled man trapped at home and mistreated by everyone
he encounters. Truly, it is Pablo who does the mistreating of those around him,
constantly. Pablo is not even wheelchair-ridden as he makes himself out to be. Pablo is
a dangerous influence on those around him. He is molding his son, Pelon, to be just like
him. Works tentatively 3 days.
ISAAC– (28-35) – Open Ethnicity – Male – Isaac is a local gallery owner and a lover of all
things art. He is a straight talker who enjoys placing a few dry jokes into a speech. He
cares for others and generally wants them to believe in themselves. He has a strong
sense of boundaries and believes in encouraging the positive habits of the youth. He
grew up in a rough part of town, and the experience shaped him to want to help others
avoid the pitfalls of life. Works tentatively 1 days.
LEXI– (45) – Open Ethnicity – Female – Lexi’s world is a split reality. The bright side is her
life as a teacher and a positive influence on society. The dark side is her past, her
connection to Pablo (her ex-husband), and now the closer connection with her beloved
son, Pelon, who is increasingly in the clutches of Pablo. Lexi is a teacher at the local
high school and knows Isaac from there. She tells it how it is to help keep her loved
ones on the right path. Works tentatively 2 days.
XIMENA– (17-18) – Open Ethnicity – Female – Raised by a good family, Ximena has managed
to keep her grades up, play soccer, and has dreams of renting an apartment after graduating
from high school. A close friend of hers died young, so she can be standoffish due to the fear
that experience created. She speaks her mind and is fiercely protective of her friends.. Works
tentatively for 3 days.
