The CASTING CALL: Will of the Kirin is now open, and Story Quest Studios is excited to share this opportunity with our voiceover community. This animated short film project is seeking talented voice actors who can bring two memorable characters to life. If you’ve been developing your skills in our voiceover program, this is a great opportunity to put them to work.
About the CASTING CALL: Will of the Kirin
Will of the Kirin is a short animated film created by Zamari Ross, a student at the University of New Mexico. The story follows a sick man who encounters a kirin — a mythical creature from East Asian folklore known as a symbol of good luck and protection — who decides that today will not be his last day on earth. It is a quiet, meaningful story about nature, healing, and the magic that exists just beyond what we can see.
Characters
This production is casting for two roles, with one voice actor doubling across the Kirin and the Human:
The Inventor (Late 40s/Early 50s) is a retired man living peacefully in the woods, going into the city only when necessary, and spending his days caring for injured animals he finds on his walks. He is gentle, weathered, and wise.
The Kirin is a mythical woodland guardian who has quietly watched over the Inventor since he arrived in the forest, moved by his kindness toward its creatures. Ancient, calm, and protective.
The Human is the Kirin in disguise — more playful and mischievous, similar in spirit to a kitsune trickster figure, but warmhearted in his jests. The same voice actor will perform both the Kirin and the Human, showcasing range between gravitas and lightness.
Even if your take sounds a little unconventional, the casting team encourages you to submit. Voice references and character design sheets are available upon request.
